Stephen Colbert did not hold back when sharing his thoughts on Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s recent call for a “national divorce.”

The talk show host slammed the state representative in his monologue on Wednesday’s (Feb. 22) episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“Unfortunately, there’s news about Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene,” Colbert said, before showing a photo of Greene yelling at the recent State of the Union address. He added, “Seen here at a kindergarten recital.”

Greene recently tweeted, “We need a national divorce. We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government. Everyone I talk to says this.”

Colbert immediately mimicked the controversial politician, telling his audience, “Yes, everyone I talk to says this – me, my gun, the crazy screaming lady who lives in the mirror and will never stop crying. Someone should take away her gun.”

Greene’s tweets received many replies pointing out that her call for a “national divorce” sounds a lot like a call for civil war. Even Marianne Williamson, who ran for the U.S. presidency in 2020, replied, “Did she just call for Civil War? Does she know what happened the last time a few states said they wanted to leave?”

The Late Show went on to show clips of Greene on The Charlie Kirk Show and Fox News, where she attempted to clear up her statement.

“The last thing I ever want to see in America is a civil war. No one wants that, at least everyone I know would never want that. But it’s going that direction,” Greene told Fox.

Colbert wasn’t buying it, though. “You’re pushing it that direction. You’re the chief spokesperson for civil war,” he said. “This is like Sir Mix-A-Lot saying, ‘The last thing my anaconda wants is buns, hons.’ But it’s going in that direction. So what does she want?”

And the monologue didn’t end there. In a clip from Fox News, Greene proposed that Democratic voters who “flee” to red states “don’t get to vote for five years.”

Colbert didn’t hold back and sharply criticized her suggestion as “the most unconstitutional idea I’ve ever heard.”

The award-winning talk show host has earned a reputation for not shying away from politics in his monologues. Though he usually has more to say about former President Donald Trump, Colbert doesn’t seem to be too impressed by Representative Greene’s politics, either.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35pm/10:35c on CBS and CBS All Access.
