Samantha Jones is back, baby! While appearing on this morning’s episode of The View, Kim Cattrall revealed one of the conditions she set in order to return as her iconic Sex and the City character for the show’s reboot, And Just Like That.
Cattrall sat down with Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin, where she dished on her highly anticipated cameo, which is reportedly set to happen at the end of the show’s currently airing second season.
“It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’ And I went, ‘Hmm… Let me get creative,'” Cattrall said. “One of those things was to get Pat Field back because I just thought that if I’m going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it, and we did.”
Not only did Field work as the costume designer on Sex and the City, but she also worked with Cattrall on her new Netflix series, Glamorous.
While the actress — who starred in all six seasons of the beloved series and both movies as Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) raunchy and quick-witted BFF — previously said she would never reprise her role, showrunner Michael Patrick King said “some magic happened behind the scenes” of And Just Like That to bring her back, per The Hollywood Reporter.
In the same interview, Parker teased her former co-star’s return — which will come in the form of a phone call between Carrie and Samantha.
“It’s just a really sentimental, funny, sweet moment that is timed perfectly for a specific event that’s happening in Carrie’s life,” Parker told THR. “It’s so familiar. So it’s really nice, I think.”
Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, added that she hopes “people aren’t disappointed,” while Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, noted that Cattrall’s return is likely a “one-time thing” to honor the show’s 25th anniversary, per THR.
All we know is that her cameo can’t come soon enough!
