‘The Horror of Dolores Roach’
There’s a new killer in town and her name is Dolores Roach! Justina Machado plays the titular character in Prime Video’s new horror romp that is based on Aaron Mark’s Spotify podcast and one-woman play. Inspired by the popular musical Sweeney Todd, the eight-episode series features bloody murders, cannibalism, and human meat-pies. Fresh out of prison, Dolores returns home to Washington Heights in NYC and finds it grossly gentrified. She moves in with a friend in the basement of his empanada shop and embarks on a new massage business, all while trying to locate her former lover who abandoned her after she took the fall for his drug bust. Things begin to go array when a message customer winds up dead after propositioning Dolores for sex. And what’s the best way to rid the body without leaving behind much evidence? Bake it into empanadas, of course. However, once Dolores and her friend starts, they struggle to stop. The show is a bloody good time with sharp writing, exciting guest appearances and enough twists to leave you breathless.
