‘Brooklyn 45’
Now streaming on Shudder, Ted Geoghegan’s Brooklyn 45 is a period chamber piece about a group of military veterans struggling to deal the lingering consequences of their actions in World War II. When his wife Susan commits suicide after being driven mad by suspicions about their German neighbor, Commander Clive “Hock” Hockstatter (NYC horror legend Larry Fessenden) calls his old war buddies to his residence in Park Slope. Little do they know, he has invited them to a séance with the hope of contacting his deceased spouse to find out if there is indeed an afterlife. Filled with truly wild twists and turns, this supernatural thriller gives its cast of workhorse actors a chance to shine (especially Anne Ramsey as a crippled interrogator who can still tap into her methods). Plus, the minimalist set and low-budget special effects work surprisingly well.
