‘The Sandlot’
“You’re killin’ me, Smalls!” The Sandlot came out thirty years ago this year, wayyyy back in the spring of 1993, but still feels timeless thanks to its action being set in 1962. While it’s true that baseball doesn’t hold the same place in the American culture that it did in ’93 — let alone the Summer of ’62 — the themes of adolescent friendship being forged by the bonds of sports remain universal. Heavily influenced by Stand By Me, this movie still resonates with the youth of today despite being set more than 60 years ago.
