How To Watch ‘Myth of the Zodiac Killer’: Release Date, Time, More

What if the Zodiac Killer was never real in the first place? Peacock’s Myth of the Zodiac Killer goes down the rabbit hole of Thomas Horan’s famed conspiracy theory stating that the unidentified serial killer never existed and there was no one person involved in the string of murders that were committed, and the person writing the cryptic letters had no connection to the actual murders.

“The Zodiac Killer is a fictional character, he is a literary invention,” insists Horan in the first episode.

Directed by Andrew Nock, best known for Unidentified with Demi Lovato and Corrupt Crimes, the new docuseries consists of two episodes and allows Horan to break down his theory, which he has been noodling on for years. The amateur investigator and English teacher published his book The Myth of the Zodiac Killer: A Literary Investigation in 2014, which serves as the basis for the series.

The well-known killer operated in Northern California in the late 1960s and is thought to have seven victims, five of whom are dead. However, the supposed killer claimed to have killed a total of 37 people through a series of coded letters, which were mailed to regional reporters.

The story made its way to Hollywood with David Fincher’s 2007 movie Zodiac, starring Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., and Jake Gyllenhaal. The killings and letters also influenced the New York Zodiac Killer, who committed murders in NYC from 1990 to 1993 and is linked to nine victims, three of whom are dead. Following his crimes, the copycat killer would send taunting messages to authorities and claimed that he was using astrology to target his victims.
