‘Lady Bird’
It might be time to catch up on one of Greta Gerwig’s greatest hits ahead of her upcoming summer blockbuster, Barbie. Lady Bird tells the story of a deeply sensitive and opinionated teenager named Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, who is trying to reinvent herself during her senior year at a Sacramento high school. But her contentious relationship with her mother forces her to face the truth about herself and her future, whether she likes it or not. It can be hard to take Christine’s dramatics too seriously throughout the movie but Gerwig’s deep understanding of girlhood and existentialism shine through her protagonist, boding well for what’s in store with Barbie.
