‘The Bear’ Season 2, Episode 6: “Fishes”
The second season of FX’s The Bear just hit Hulu, and while the series as a whole is *chef’s kiss*, Episode 6, “Fishes”, deserves its own special mention. The chaotic, fast-paced, and somehow still heartfelt flashback episode is one of my favorites from the new season. The entire episode takes place at a past Berzatto family Christmas party that’s packed to the brim with family drama, heartwarming moments and, of course, celebrity cameos. With one hour-long flashback, we gain more understanding of Carmy, Mikey, Sugar, Richie and the Berzatto’s history than we ever had before. Donna’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) chaos-filled kitchen is no different than that of The Original Beef in season one, Tiffany and Richie’s relationship before their divorce was quite beautiful and, most importantly, we finally get a closer look into Mikey’s personality, mental health issues and intricate relationships before his passing. When it comes to complex family dynamics and personal battles, “Fishes” leaves nothing untouched — not even the Berzatto’s childhood home.
