Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a box office hit when it premiered this May, tying off one of Marvel‘s most successful franchises. Though it was said to be the final installment of the series, Vol. 3 certainly left Marvel fans wanting more, especially after those after-credits scenes teased the possibility of getting more adventures with the Guardians.
The third installment took a more sentimental approach to the team’s adventures in Vol. 3 as it attempted to give the guardians some much-needed closure. Still reeling from a broken heart, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) rallies his gang of misfits to rescue Rocket (Bradley Cooper). While Quill struggles with his unexpected reunion with Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) – who has no recollection of the life they had built together – the viewer gets their first glimpse into Rocket’s heartrending past.
Now that we’re officially two months out from the film’s U.S. premiere, it seems high time for Guardians to begin streaming on Disney+ soon, as was often the case with previous Marvel movies. But the galactic adventure will unexpectedly be following the footsteps of another recent Marvel release, instead.
When will Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 be streaming on Disney+?
A streaming date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on Disney+ has not been announced yet. But for now, the movie will be released on VOD platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, and iTunes beginning on Friday, July 7.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania made a similar move before it landed on Disney+ in May. As Decider’s John Serba noted, the decision to release it on VOD first “leads one to believe that Mickey Mouse wants to wring a few more bucks out of the movie – which ONLY grossed $474 million worldwide – before anyone can watch it for ‘free.'”
Ant-Man 3 began streaming almost exactly three months after it premiered in theaters. That means Marvel fans can still expect Guardians Vol. 3 to stream on Disney+ before the end of the summer.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also be available for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD starting August 1.
For now, fans can stream the first two installments of Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, on Disney+.
