This week on Fear the Walking Dead, it’s time for the mid-season finale. Picking up on last week’s devastating loss of — spoilers past this point — Grace (Karen David), this week’s episode finds Morgan Jones (Lennie James) once again wrestling with the death of a loved one, as well as his own unraveling mind. Given that we last saw him locked inside a train car with walkers slowly approaching, we’re in for another contemplative episode featuring Morgan, right? Wrong, as you can see in Decider’s exclusive clip from the episode.

In fact, when we pick up Morgan isn’t in the train car at all. He’s outside, surrounded by the bodies of dead (again) walkers, his hands covered in blood, and Madison (Kim Dickens) looking incredibly concerned. Fans of the franchise should probably be on high alert too, as this seems like it’s the return of a Morgan we haven’t seen in a while, the one who is losing time and his grip on sanity.

In case you’ve forgotten, this plotline actually goes all the way back to one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead of all time, Season 3’s “Clear”, which found Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) catching up with his old friend Morgan who was much worse for the wear. That Morgan was smearing the words “clear” all over the walls of his house after the death of his son, Duane, and had one mode: killing everything in sight until it was all, you know, clear.

Through his time on Fear the Walking Dead, Morgan has often had a wavering relationship with his sanity, but particularly in this final season has mostly kept himself in check. Will the death of Grace be the thing that sends him over the edge for the final time?

You can check out the clip above for clues, and the Fear the Walking Dead mid-season finale will air at a later time this Sunday, 10/9c after the premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City.
