New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: 1923, The Recruit, Nanny + More

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan knows he’s got franchise well worth expanding upon, which is why he’s been hard at work creating 1923, premiering this weekend on Paramount+. The new series, which takes place amid America’s westward expansion and the Great Depression, stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton, the great uncle and aunt to Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, Jr. Over on Netflix, Noah Centineo stars in the new spy series The Recruit, in which he plays a young CIA lawyer dragged into a dangerous assignment he’s not cut out for. And in Prime Video’s new horror Nanny, Us actress Anna Diop stars as a Senegalese nanny for a wealthy Manhattan family who’s trying to earn enough to get her young son to come live with her, but she’s tormented by visions that terrify her.

New on Paramount+ December 18: 1923

The drama that the Dutton family has been creating goes back more than a century. If 1883 wasn’t enough for you, now there’s yet another Yellowstone prequel, 1923, which takes us back to the Prohibition era, as the Dutton set down their roots at their Montana ranch. Originally meant to be a single-season limited series, these eight episodes, the first of which premieres on Sunday night, will eventually be expanded into a second season.

New on Amazon Prime Video December 16: Nanny

In Nanny, Anna Diop is Aisha, an immigrant from Senegal who takes a job caring for the daughter of a rich couple (Michelle Monaghan and Morgan Spector) who live on the Upper West Side and at first seem nice, but as time goes on they make Aisha’s life increasingly uncomfortable. As she deals with unease around her employers, she’s haunted by images, visions that portend something grim to come. This is a Blumhouse Production, so while Aisha’s story could just be an unsettling immigrant story, you can be sure there’s an element of horror and tragedy by the end.

New on Netflix December 16: The Recruit

The new Netflix series The Recruit is co-produced by Doug Liman, the man who brought us The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and created by Alexi Hawley, who also created Castle and The Rookie. Just bringing that up so you know the DNA that lurks in this new spy thriller. In the eight-episode series, Noah Centineo stars as Owen Hendricks, a newbie at the CIA who is immediately pulled into a dangerous situation when he finds himself forced to negotiate with a former CIA asset who threatens the security of the agency.
