Max Is Doing the Minimum: HBO Max Users Report Login Errors Amid the Streamer’s Site Migration to Max

If you’re an HBO Max subscriber, you should have received a notification this week about the site’s name change and conversion to Max, which is happening today, May 23.

The first thing the message stated was that subscribers’ “billing and sign-in info for Max is the same as your HBO Max account.” It also explained that “depending on your devices, one of two things will happen: HBO Max will automatically update to Max. Or, when you open HBO Max, you’ll be prompted to download the Max app.” Now that the change has begun, many HBO Max subscribers have been complaining that these changes are not as simple or seamless as they had hoped, with some devices not even showing an option to log in to Max.

HBO Max is currently only transitioning to Max in the United States, but some users based in Puerto Rico — a part of the States — have noticed that their services have lapsed.

Still other subscribers are complaining that Max is not working on certain selected devices like Roku and Fire TV.

And while it was made clear that some users would need to download a new app in order to access the new platform, many aren’t happy or are just plain confused about which app to use, since they now have the HBO Max and Max apps on their devices.

On the flip side, once subscribers are finally able to access the app, they’ll gain access not just to the HBO streaming library, but programming from Discovery brands like HGTV, Discovery Channel and Food Network as well.

A report yesterday stated that Warner Bros. Discovery has set up numerous “war rooms” across the globe to address any technical problems that arise. “The entire team is on standby,” Warner Bros. Discovery CTO Avi Saxena stated, and that customer feedback will be evaluated daily in order to prioritize fixes. Decider spoke with a representative from Max today, who explained, “You must always anticipate issues on a tech rollout of this scale. We can share that only minor ones have emerged and were quickly remedied.”

Listen, as long as everything is working in time for the Succession finale, it will be fine.
