It may seem pretty difficult to forget Harrison Ford‘s iconic roles, but Conan O’Brien makes it look easy, and right in Ford’s face, no less.

The two sat down on O’Brien’s Conan Needs a Friend podcast on Monday (July 3), where they delved into a discussion about ancestry after Ford asked O’Brien, “What kind of a name is Conan?”

Once O’Brien explained his Gaelic roots, he moved on to discuss Ford’s background, a topic he seemed to have conducted research on prior to the recording session.

“You are Irish-German, and mother Jewish,” O’Brien told Ford in a video of their podcast recording, surprising him with the German bit, as Ford asked, “What’s the German part?”

O’Brien proceeded to tell Ford that his father was “German-Irish,” to which Ford replied, “My father was Irish-Irish.”

Just when O’Brien seemed to concede, he picked up a piece of paper and said, “I refer you to this piece of paper right here that says, ‘Born and raised in Chicago to an Irish/German father.”

Ford rebutted, “Well if that’s the quality of your research,” eliciting laughs from O’Brien’s recording crew as he pointed to O’Brien’s notes and said, “and I imagine it is because right there it says ‘Harrison Ford,’ and then you had to write down ‘Han Solo.'”

He continued, “You can’t fucking remember that?”

O’Brien replied, “No, I can’t. I can’t remember Han Solo.”

“Are you serious?,” one of his crew members asked, to which he replied, “I wrote it down because I heard you were in some of the Star Wars films and this was news to me because I’ve seen those films, and I don’t exactly think you ‘pop’!”

O’Brien did note that he remembered Chewbacca and “the bad guy with the black helmet,” referring to the infamous Darth Vader.

Ford was dumbfounded, but got the final blast as he asked O’Brien, “How come you’re not still on television?” referring to the end of O’Brien’s Conan talk show, which wrapped on TBS in 2021.

The whole room was left cackling, including O’Brien, who finally responded with, “I think it’s obvious why I’m not still on television.”

Despite the roasts, O’Brien did share that Ford was one of his favorite guests on his late night show because “he’s so goddamn funny” and “tossed him around like a rag doll verbally on these shows.”

Ford began to commend O’Brien’s work, saying, “You guys wrote some great stuff,” but then quickly retorted, “I don’t remember any of it.”

You can catch Ford in theaters as he reprises his titular role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, a role which O’Brien may or may not remember. Watch the duo’s full podcast interview in the clip above.
