Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel revealed she and her on-screen husband Ben Savage have been “estranged” since 2019.

The actress explained that Savage initially remained close with his cast mates after reuniting for the reboot series, Girl Meets World. But, according to Fishel and her co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle, Savage declined to join their Pod Meets World podcast and hasn’t spoken to any of them in three years.

“He just kind of disappeared from our lives,” she said, per Variety. “He ghosted us.”

Friedle added, “I wish I knew why, to this day. We didn’t have a fight. There’s no falling out. There was no animosity. He just woke up one day, and decided, ‘I don’t want this person in my life anymore.‘”

Friedle said the topic was a “sore subject” for him since he’s known the actor since they starred as brothers on the show. “I finally sent a text saying, ‘I’ve known you for 30 years, what’s going on?'” he said. “I said, ‘I’m gonna call you every day until you tell me not to call you anymore.’ That lasted about three weeks or a month, every single day.”

He admitted he “tried and tried for months” until his wife told him to stop.

On the show, Fishel and Savage played childhood sweethearts Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence. The 1993 series, which ran for seven seasons, followed the ensemble cast from their awkward middle school years to college and beyond as they navigated school and relationships.

The cast happily reunited in 2015 for Girl Meets World, which showed Cory and Topanga as new parents raising a teenage daughter. After the spinoff series wrapped, the cast remained close and began attending fan conventions together until Savage suddenly stopped. But when Fishel delivered her first son early in 2019, she said Savage was there for her.

“We were just so, so close, especially during that time. He was checking in with me regularly,” she recalled, before adding that Savage then “ghosted us.”

Savage has since pivoted to a career in politics. He announced this past March he was running for a U.S. House seat in California. Prior to that, he unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council.

“If there’s anything this podcast has taught me, it’s that everyone is on their own journey and having their own experiences that can be perceived many different ways, depending on your POV,” Fishel said of Pod Meets World. “Speaking for myself, Ben and I may be estranged right now and we may have our complaints about each other, but I will always love Ben and want what’s best for him. I don’t think this is the end of our story — but time will tell.”

Estrangement aside, the trio mainly had good things to say about their time on the show.

“As a blanket statement, Boy Meets World is an overwhelmingly positive experience in all of our lives,” Strong said.
