And Just Like That... finally reveals what Steve Brady (David Eigenberg) has been up to while Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) was shacking up with Che (Sara Ramírez) in Los Angeles. He was getting hot. After Season 1 of the Max show portrayed the Sex and the City fave as a doddering doormat, And Just Like That… Season 2 Episode 4 “ALIVE!” reintroduces Steve Brady as a bona fide hottie. If you thought And Just Like That… Season 1 did Steve dirty, it seems maybe the character thought so, too. There’s literally no other way to describe Steve’s new look except to say he has a revenge body.

I’d be the first person to admit that I did not care for the way in which Miranda and Steve’s marriage crumbled in And Just Like That... Season 1. Miranda’s affair with Che was a curveball for the character not because it was a queer romance, but because Miranda was always the voice of practical, logical, ethical reason. Hooking up with the comic in Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) kitchen when she was supposed to be helping her convalescing bestie felt deeply out of character for Miranda. Furthermore, the way the show’s writers transformed Steve into a shadow of his former self, complete with presenting his hearing loss as a nuisance for Miranda, was borderline cruel.

Cut to And Just Like That… Season 2. Miranda is fully leaning into her messy “New Miranda” era, exploring her sexuality with a self-awareness she was missing last season. She is fully aware that she is behaving out of character, and rather than justify it, she just owns the chaos. Still, Miranda’s new lifestyle came at the expense of Steve. Specifically since we haven’t even been given a chance to check in on the dude since Season 1 ended. Now we know that Steve is basically doing fine. Or, at least, he’s funneled his fury into physical fitness.

When we reunite with Miranda in And Just Like That... Season 2 Episode 4 “ALIVE!”, we learn that her Brooklyn sleeping arrangements leave much to be desired. Besides being relegated to the couch, she is awoken by the incessant percussive beats of Steve punching the speed bag that he’s installed in his bedroom. It’s worth noting that Miranda isn’t the only person irked by the noise. Brady (Niall Cunningham) literally complains about it during their therapy session. (Yes, their therapist is played by Only Murders in the Building Season 2 standout Adina Verson.) Steve — who is his usual non-confrontational self in therapy — has found an outlet for his ire and we are the ones who benefit the most from it.

The vibes between Steve and Miranda still seem off, but the fact that Steve is working on himself suggests that he is planning his own “New Steve” era. One where he will be shirtless and beefy and pounding on a punching bag. One where maybe he gets to have his own late-in-life rumspringa, banging babes and getting into mischief.

We’ll have to wait to watch the rest of the second season of And Just Like That... to find out how this shakes out, but for now we have the image of hot Steve.
