Anthony “Tony” Morina will no longer be co-executive producing The Young and the Restless.  A Sony source confirmed to Decider that Morina has been fired from The Young and The Restless, leaving head writer Josh Griffith as the show’s singular executive producer.

Morina has been with the long-running soap since 2007, serving as a producer, supervising producer and executive producer.

The former producer’s exit was first reported by Daytime Confidential, which alleged that Morina is “out” after being “let go” by CBS.

In 2021, Morina was accused of sexual harassment after allegedly making advances towards an actor, Briana Thomas, when she appeared on the soap opera in 2018 and 2019.

Per Variety, Thomas filed suit against Sony Pictures Television (which produces the soap opera) and CBS Studios, and claimed that Morina acted inappropriately towards her.

She said that he would often invade her personal space and compliment her appearance, telling her that she could “really be something” on the series and offering private lessons. Thomas also stated that he once tried to get her to remove her cover-up while filming a poolside scene, so he could see her in a bikini.

When assigned sexual harassment training, Morina called the classes “bullshit” and blamed “bitches” who “had their panties in a bunch” and “didn’t know how to take a compliment,” according to Variety. Thomas claims that she was eventually fired from the series.

A trial jury has been set for March 2023, according to Soap Opera Network.

Morina appears to be denying the correlation between the allegations and his departure, telling SoapHub, “After 16 years, it’s time to move on to other things.”

He continued, “I’m most proud of keeping the show going over the last two and a half years through COVID once we returned after the initial production shutdown.”

When reached for comment by Decider, reps for Sony, CBS and The Young and the Restless declined to comment on whether there’s a correlation between Morina’s firing and the sexual harassment allegations made against Morina in 2021.

Morina has also served as a producer on Spyder Games and served as a director on General Hospital and The Clinic.
