*SPOILERS FOR OUTLANDER SEASON 7 EPISODE 2, NOW STREAMING ON STARZ*

Outlander Season 7 Episode 2 “The Happiest Place on Earth” is huge for the Fraser clan. Brianna (Sophie Skelton) gives birth to her second child with Roger (Richard Rankin) and soon learns from Claire (Caitriona Balfe) that little “Mandy” has a heart condition that will kill her if it goes untreated in colonial times. But before Bri, Roger, and their kids return to the modern era, Jamie (Sam Heughan) gets a glimpse of his daughter Brianna and illegitimate son William (Charles Vandervaart) together. Fate introduced Jamie’s two children to each other right in the nick of time, even if William, a British loyalist proudly wearing a redcoat uniform, has no idea of his secret Scottish parentage.

All that matters to Jamie, however, is that he got to see both of his surviving children interacting together.

“It’s a huge moment for him,” Sam Heughan told Decider. “You know it’s kind of tragic for Jamie that he can’t be part of [William’s] upbringing. He desperately would love to be part of his life, but it would be too dangerous for William to have that.”

For Outlander fans who forget the finer story beats of Season 3, after Claire returned to her timeline to give birth to Brianna, Jamie had to contend with the bloody aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. Eventually, Jamie finds himself in prison, where the kind (and very much gay for Jamie) Lord John Grey (David Berry) is in charge. Lord John hooks his buddy up with a gig as a groom for one Lord Dunsany (Rupert Vansittart).

Lord Dunsany’s beautiful and spoiled daughter Geneva (Hannah James) falls in lust with Jamie and pushes him to take her virginity before she is wed to her awful suitor. When Geneva finally dies giving birth to her son, William, her husband immediately realizes the red-haired child is a bastard. He threatens to murder the baby, but Jamie steps in and kills Lord Ellesmere instead. Eventually Lord John Grey marries Geneva’s younger sister Isobel (Tanya Reynolds) and they raise “Willie” as the ninth Lord Ellesmere.

For a while, Jamie is allowed to be moderately close to his son. Willie grows up thinking of the estate’s groom, Jamie, as a friend. He has no idea that Jamie is really his biological father. While Brianna believes William has a right to know his heritage, Jamie and Lord John agree that the knowledge would only put William — and his inheritance — in jeopardy.

So where does this story go next? Is Jamie really going to fight on an opposite side of the Revolutionary War than his son?

“That storyline is definitely played out this season. I don’t wanna give too much away,” Heughan said. “But yeah, in that moment, Jamie’s obviously, you know, heart full. It’s a really special moment for him.”

Outlander Season 7 Episode 2 “The Happiest Place on Earth” is now streaming on the Starz app and will premiere on Starz tonight at 8 PM ET/PT.
