Pokémon originated as two video games 27 years ago and has since spawned 37 games, countless toys and merchandise collabs, and more, all centered around creatures called “Pokémon.”

Today, a staggering 1,008 species of Pokémon can be found in games, TV shows, and movies.

There is also a long-running anime series and film franchise, in addition to the live-action movie Detective Pikachu, released in 2019.
