Or maybe, if you’re not me, your brain immediately flashes back to a more recent glitter-based phenomenon: the New York Times‘ 2018 deep dive into the origins of everyone’s favorite sparkly crafting/makeup item.
“What Is Glitter?” caused quite a stir back in 2018 and it led to one of the internet’s most enduring mysteries: who’s buying all the glitter? Thanks to the sleuths at a new-ish YouTube channel named CHUPPL, it looks like an answer has been found. Consider this glitter conspiracy solved.
If you’re wondering why this became such a big deal in the first place, it’s all because of primo, top-tier glitter manufacturer Glitterex. During the New York Times‘ investigation, representatives from Glitterex refused to name their top buyer, while offering teasing hints like “you’d never guess it” and “they don’t want anyone to know it’s glitter.” That’s practically daring the internet to get to work. Theories ranged from glitter having military purposes to being used in toothpaste, and all of these theories had lots of data to back them up. Correct data, though? There was no proving any of these theories right or wrong.
Fast-forward almost five years later and — bingo — mystery solved! But where can you stream this glitter documentary?
