Colleen Ballinger Faces Backlash After Video Resurfaces of Her Performing Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’ in Either Blackface or Greenface

After sharing an “unserious” apology video addressing grooming allegations, YouTuber Colleen Ballinger is receiving even more backlash thanks to a new viral video showing her performing Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” in what some believe is Blackface.

The video, which is unlisted but is still available for viewing, shows Ballinger performing the hit song with two back-up dancers during one of her national live tours. She appears to have dark-colored face paint on her face throughout the entire performance.

The video, which was posted to YouTube five years ago, went viral on Twitter on Wednesday (July 5) as users slammed Ballinger for performing in Blackface and called her out for racism.

But some believe she is actually wearing green face paint. On Reddit, multiple users inferred that she was likely wearing green face makeup because she also performed a song from Wicked as Elphaba during that tour. It is unclear when the video was shot, but it does show her removing her costume to show the black leotard underneath before she begins performing.

Others felt that performing the song in green face paint would still be “very irresponsible” of Ballinger. “If you do a skit as Elphaba were you have on dark colored face paint, and the next song you’re gonna sing is by a Black artist, you should have enough tact and understanding to realize that that might not go over well,” one user commented.

Ballinger and her representatives have not yet addressed the controversial video.

According to influencer Paige Christie, who also shared the “Single Ladies” video that went viral on Twitter, the video was made available to fans through a QR code shared in Ballinger’s 2018 book My Diarrhe.

Ballinger was already facing criticism for allegedly having inappropriate interactions with her underaged fans, including sending YouTuber Adam McIntyre “lingerie as a joke” and engaging in a private Twitter group chat with her fans where she allegedly shared intimate details about her divorce from Josh Evans.

She shared a 10-minute-long video on June 28 which showed her performing an apology song on the ukelele, which included lyrics such as, “All aboard the toxic gossip train,” which is “chugging down the tracks of misinformation.”

Ballinger has since canceled one of her upcoming live shows and issued a full refund to fans.
