The star-studded The Super Mario Bros. Movie did not only bring the beloved Nintendo video game series’ characters to the big screen in a reimagined fashion, but also made way for a certified bop in the form of Jack Black’s “Peaches.”

The ballad, which says the word “Peaches” a whopping 32 times, debuted in the #83 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in April, and is even eligible for an Oscar nomination.

Black, who plays Bowser in the film, had the opportunity to perform the song at the Game Awards at the Hollywood Bowl in LA, live for the first time ever.

For his epic performance, Black brought along his band, Tenacious D, which he founded with fellow actor, comedian, and musician, Kyle Gass. The band also performed their new single “Video Games,” which clocks in at one minute and fifteen seconds and was released in May, per Uproxx.

“Peaches” and its catchy lyrics have been stuck in listeners’ heads since the film’s release; fans have even conspired as far as to deem the single an “epic rickroll,” as the song is performed in D flat minor, just like Rick Astley’s ’80s hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

Despite the song’s success, Black was initially hesitant about Bowser’s ballad in the film, telling IGN that “there was no talk of singing until about halfway through the recording process.”

“‘Are we doing a musical? If we are, then I want to hear the music before I agree to do it,’” he said. “So I said, ‘Let me hear what you got, what do you got?’ They sent over this little song, and I just couldn’t deny that it was funny. I was like, I get it. I see why you want Bowser to do this, tickling the ivories and singing a love song to Peaches. It was undeniable.”

And aren’t we glad it was! We all knew Jack Black knows how to rock (his performance of “Teacher’s Pet” as fraudulent teacher Dewey Finn in School of Rock is enough evidence), but “Peaches” truly sealed the deal.
