John Boyega Shares Update on Jamie Foxx’s Medical Recovery at ‘They Cloned Tyrone’ Premiere: “I Wanted Him to Show Up”

They Cloned Tyrone stars John Boyega and Teyonah Parris wished their costar Jamie Foxx a speedy recovery after the entertainer missed the film’s red carpet premiere earlier this week.

Foxx, who has been recovering from an undisclosed medical complication since April, was certainly missed at the event, with Boyega confessing he wished his co-star was by his side.

“I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he’s dealing with what he’s dealing with, and we just wish him all the best,” Boyega told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet Wednesday (June 14) evening.

“I’ve been calling, I’m just gonna keep on calling,” Boyega said. “He better pick up. Come on, Jamie!”

While Foxx has been keeping a low profile for the last few months, his daughter, Corinne Foxx, has been keeping fans updated and recently shared that her father was out of the hospital and playing pickleball last month.

Parris also wished Foxx well in his absence at the premiere and spoke on her experiences working with him on the sci-fi satire.

“I wish Jamie all the recovery and healing. He’s just so amazing. It was just such an honor to work with him. He’s so generous as an actor and as a human, along with John,” she said, per ET.

Parris continued, “I got lucky to be able to work with such dope men on this project, and dope men of color, that it was just so much fun.”

Though the specifics of Foxx’s health and recovery are being kept under wraps, he personally thanked his supporters in early May for their well wishes during his recovery, saying he was “feeling blessed.”

In a promising update, Foxx is expected to return to the small screen alongside Corinne; the two are set to co-host a new musical competition show on FOX called We Are Family, which is slated to premiere in 2024. They previously co-hosted the musical gameshow Beat Shazam for five seasons.

“We are thrilled to be developing We Are Family with Jeff Apploff and our friends at FOX Entertainment after so much success with six seasons of Beat Shazam,” Foxx and his daughter said in a press release. “We hope this show brings as much fun to audiences at home as we’ve had creating it when it premieres next year.”

They Cloned Tyrone premieres on Netflix on July 14.
