Jamie Foxx Waves to Fans in First Public Appearance Since His Mysterious Hospitalization in April

Jamie Foxx fans can finally rest easy. The actor and comedian recently made his first public appearance since being hospitalized in April after suffering from a “medical complication.”

In footage shared by TMZ on Sunday (July 9), Foxx waves to fans from a boat in Chicago, where he has reportedly been recovering with his family by his side.

He later tweeted for the first time since March 14, writing on Sunday, “Boat life. Celebrating summer with @brownsugarbbn Stay blessed!”

TMZ also reports they had seen more footage of Foxx “spending a night out on the town” in Chicago on Saturday (July 8). Though the video wasn’t publicly shared by the outlet, TMZ reported that Foxx was seen “getting active on his feet, no less, and looking to be in great spirits there too.”

This is the first public appearance Foxx has made since his daughter, Corinne Foxx, announced that he had been hospitalized due to a mysterious “medical complication” in early April. Updates from Foxx and his family have been few and far in between since.

Foxx shared his only public statement about his health in early May, writing on Instagram, “Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed.”

Corinne also shared an update on his condition soon after, shutting down rumors about his declining health.

“Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating,” Corrine said on her Instagram Story. “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support.”

Porscha Coleman, who starred alongside Foxx in their short-lived Netflix sitcom Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!, was also one of Foxx’s many friends to come forward with a promising update on the actor’s health.

“I look forward to seeing him. I know he’s doing great and he’ll be back, trust and believe,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the BET Awards. “He got a lot of projects coming up, a lot of music that I already know he has. So, I’m excited.

Though the nature of his “medical complication” has not been disclosed, Foxx has dropped at least on project as he recovers; he and his daughter stepped away from Beat Shazam, the music game show they co-hosted together for six seasons.

Fortunately, the father-daughter duo already have their next gig lined up: a new musical competition show titled We Are Family that is set to premiere on FOX in 2024.
